Day 1 – Elsenfeld to Heppenheim (5/25/13)

Just as the weather reports have predicted, we finally had a rain free morning after. Although, it was a bit cold outside, we were glad to see the sun shining over the horizon. After quick breakfast, we loaded up our bikes and got on the road. As promised, our cousin kept us company for the first 15K or so.

We are nearing half-way point and the weather cooperated thus far.

After a few minutes of riding, city streets merged into beautiful open country roads surrounded by farms. It felt really good to be on the road as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The route took us through numerous small towns and villages with narrow streets and medieval architecture.

Near Darmstadt we passed through a dark forest that was really breath taking. It was around this time that the weather started to change. We could clearly see dark clouds gathering as we descended towards the Rhine River.

By late afternoon, it started sprinkling as we reached Heppenheim. Prior to the trip, I purchased a prepaid phone card with 3G service. So, I had internet on my phone while we were in Germany. That is what we relied on to find the
